Questions

Practical answers for founding vendors.

What to know before applying for the Edinburgh Marketplace founding pilot.

Is the marketplace live for orders?

Not yet. We’re starting with vendor applications and a buyer waitlist first. Checkout comes later, once we have the right vendors and products ready.

Is there a vendor fee?

No monthly fee during the founding pilot. Commission applies only once sales begin.

Who can apply?

Independent Edinburgh shops, makers, boutiques, food and drink sellers, artists and product-led local businesses with suitable products.

Do I need an online shop already?

No. That is partly the point. Existing photos and clear pricing help, but you do not need a perfect ecommerce setup.

How will fulfilment work?

During the pilot, we’ll look at fulfilment vendor by vendor. Some products may work through direct shipping, some through local delivery or collection, and some may need to wait until the system is more developed.

Will I need to appear on live video?

Not necessarily. The marketplace can host the live selling format. Vendors mainly need to provide products, stories and availability.

What happens after I apply?

We review fit, product categories, pricing and fulfilment readiness, then follow up about the next step for the 90-day pilot.
